Respect at Work - Avoiding the Employment Tribunal

In summary

All employers need to take respect at work seriously. Bullying and harassment at work cause untold misery and stress, which in turn lead to increased absence and poor motivation. They are also a factor in the increase in Discrimination claims. New laws outline the definition of harassment, and strengthen the need for all employers to have proper policies, procedures and training in place. If you were to face an Employment Tribunal, you would need to demonstrate that you had taken all "reasonably practicable" steps to prevent harassment and discrimination. It is not sufficient to have a written policy alone.

It includes guidance on what type of behaviour may be construed as bullying or harassment, and looks at difficult management issues like managing banter.
